B E A U T Y: my natural hair

In case some of you are wondering; yes this is all of my hair, every curl and swirl is mine. I had to disclose that because I get asked that all the time. Anyway, I have finally decided to do a post that is dedicated to my natural hair. Hopefully, I will answer all of the questions that may come up in the future.

For starters, my hair is Type 4A Coily meaning that I have an 'S' curl pattern with tightly coiled hair. Most of my hair does have the same texture it's just that the front of my hair has a looser curl because the hair is thinner in that area. Now, this isn't the first time that I have gone natural. I went natural for the first time in like '07/'08 but I couldn't manage my hair at that time so I went back to a relaxer. Then, in January of 2014 I did the big chop again, but it wasnt so much hair that I chopped off because I was growing out the relaxer for quite a while. I have honestly always hated relaxing my hair because 1. it burned everytime 2. it's costly 3. not healthy for my hair.

Color: After a while of being natural I decided to dye my hair to add some visual definition. I did actually dye my at home with a friend the first time and the 2nd and 3rd sessions I did them myself. I used the really easy John Freida Foam Precision applicator in color 9N for the 1st & 2nd session then in color 10N for the current color I have now. My friend suggested that I use that specific applicator because it's super easy to use and there's no worry for any blotchy patches. I must warn that it is very important that your hair is moisturized when using any dye because they are very drying.

Routine/Maintainence: Typically I try to do as little as possible to my hair. I really don't have time to do anything to it anymore honestly so a wash and go has been part of my routine lately. Sometimes I would do a wash and go every 3 days or 5 days if my hair is cooperative. I used to do a 3-strand twist out but even that became too time consuming. As for maintainence, I will always co-wash my hair when doing a wash and go but after a month or so I would shampoo my hair. I also don't regularly deep condition because once again it's too time consuming.

Products: I have tested and tried several products on my hair and I still haven't found the perfect products just yet. At the moment I'm using the Cantu Define & Shine Custard for setting my wash and go. If I'm doing a twist out I would use the Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie which is actually a really good product. And lastly I just use olive oil to lock in the moisture. I try to keep the amount of products I use on my hair to a minimal because product buildup isn't good for the hair.

If you have any other questions about my hair definitely leave a commet below or email me. :)
